The "Scottish Highland Games", sponsored by the
Caledonian Club of San Francisco, and held at the Alameda Fairgrounds in
Pleasanton, CA, are reputed to be the largest games in California, and
perhaps in the world. In recent years there have been 30,000 to 40,000
attendees per year. We (Robert "Bob" Rose and Patrice May) feel
privileged to have been asked by longtime Western Commissioner Monte
Patterson to continue the Clan Rose tent tradition at these games, which
we have done since Monte passed the mantle in 2006. We miss you, Monte!!
We have noticed an increase in visitors this year.
Over 45 people stopped by, many of whom signed in. Several expressed
interest in joining the CRSA and took membership application forms with
them.
Some visitors were interested in identifying their
family lineage, others were interested in connecting with their
Scottish/Rose heritage (there is a difference!), and all enjoyed
the camaraderie that can arise in the company of those that share
a common ancestor, no matter how far back you have to go to find that
common ancestor!
We sold twenty Clan Rose T-shirts this year, a record
for us.

Among our returning visitors was Christopher (Chris)
Rose from Elk Grove, CA. Chris was an Individual Competitor on the
bagpipes this year. He is currently a member of the White Hackle Pipe
Band, based in Roseville, CA., which has performed at many Northern
California Scottish games and events. His brother, Nicholas, competes
and performs as well. Chris likes to spend time at the Clan Rose tent,
and we enjoy his support!

supporter of the Clan Rose tent at the Pleasanton games. She appears in
a photo, along with Bob Rose & Monte Patterson in the Winter 2004 CRSA
Newsletter.
Rick Novasad (whose mother is a Rose) and his wife
Donna Dabeck, of Fairfield, CA, marched
with us under the Clan Rose banner during the Parade
and Gathering of the Clans.

Eric W. Anderson, of Walnut Creek, CA, was cheered on
by his wife Sally and children Madeline, Emma, & Mitchell, as well as
various other family members, while representing Clan Rose as a
contestant in the Kilted Mile race, coming in a strong 2nd. He wore his
Rose hunting plaid, and was the only contestant to run in his wool
socks! (He did shed his sporran while running, however.)

Eric W. & David C. Anderson, from Irvine, CA, both
helped set up and "tear down" the Clan Rose tent this year, as they have
in previous years.

We wish to express appreciation to all of our family
members who help us year after year, and to our Clan Rose visitors. We
Roses truly are a worldwide family, who value the tradition of
Kilravock!
